What is Aluminium honeycomb?

Aluminium honeycomb panels are composite structures made up of 2 thin layers of aluminium, 2 thin sheet of adhesive oxygen resistant coating, and a durable lightweight honeycomb core in between, making it look like a “sandwich structure”. The honeycomb core adds strength and rigidity to the panels while keeping the weight extremely light. This structure is so durable that it has been used in essential substructures like rockets, aircraft, and jet engines too. An aluminium shelf is strong enough to easily support the weight of a full-grown adult, far exceeding the load of a typical set of kitchen utensils and cooking equipment.

Advantage of using Aluminium honeycomb structure

The aluminium honeycomb structure offers exceptional rigidity while remaining lightweight, a quality that traditional wooden carpentry cannot match. Available in various sizes, shapes, and thicknesses, it’s essential to hire a contractor with the right equipment to customize the product to your specifications. Aluminium honeycomb is environmentally friendly as it is recyclable, resistant to fire and chemicals, and free from formaldehyde, contributing to a healthier living environment.

How are aluminium honeycomb panels made?

The process of manufacturing aluminium honeycomb involves the key steps shown below.

  1. It starts with a roll of aluminum foil, which is passed through a printer to apply adhesive lines.
  2. The foil is then cut to the required size and stacked into piles using a stacking machine.
  3. These stacked sheets are pressed with heat to cure the adhesive and bond the layers into a honeycomb block.
  4. The block is then sliced, with thickness customized to meet customer specifications.
  5. Finally, the honeycomb structure is expanded.
